Exploring the Perceptions of School Leaders and Teachers Towards the Role and Value of School Librarians
Doctoral Dissertation | Abilene Christian University | 2025
My dissertation examined how superintendents, principals, and teachers in a North Central Texas education service region understand the work of certified school librarians. It explored their views of librarians’ contributions to student learning and school culture amid budget pressures and reductions in librarian positions.
The findings showed differing perceptions across these groups and a strong connection between participants’ direct experiences with librarians and how they valued the role. The study highlights the importance of helping educators and decision-makers understand librarians’ qualifications and instructional contributions.
